What happens if the time limit for claiming has expired? | Criminal Injuries Compensation Skip to main content

The CICA will look at the reasons for making a late claim application if the 2 year time limit has expired. Unless there are specific reasons, the time limits are usually strictly adhered to.

Examples circumstances where the CICA can consider waiving the time, include where the assault was one of historic sex abuse that was not reported to the Police until recently. Or where you suffered such a psychological injury where your symptoms are serious enough to have affected your ability to make a claim.

We realise these circumstances are complicated and we are always happy to help to establish whether or not you are likely in your individual circumstances to be able to get over this difficult hurdle.
